Style Icon: Rachel Green

Friends is undeniably one of the most popular and memorable television series of all time, and

while I was only a toddler during the pinnacle of the shows success, I have since binge watched all 236 episodes with utter love and devotion. America's sweetheart and girl-next-door, character Rachel Green, played by the one and only Jennifer Aniston, revolutionised fashion with timeless 90's contributions that are still in-style today. Despite being synonymous for her layered and highlighted hairstyle dubbed "The Rachel", copied by everyones mothers way back when, her characters dress sense of effortlessness yet elegance is my reason for adoration.

Indisputably the most stylish of the bunch; Rachel was the resident fashion girl both in her personal life and career, working for Bloomingdales, Ralph Lauren as well as an offering at Louis Vuitton, Paris. And with no less than 700 outfits throughout 10 unforgettable seasons, Rachel never failed to spark my wardrobe envy regardless of being 90's, now vintage looks. Jen was also arguably an initiator of the feminist free-the-nipple movement with her apparent despise towards and lack of bras throughout the seasons, or perhaps the set was always cold? Our personal closet collections including knee-high boots, plaid and distressed denim pieces are all thanks to the trend-setting and timeless influence of our favourite Friend.

Below is a compilation of my all-time favourite Rachel looks that can still be relevantly recreated and pulled off today:

The one with the... Turtle Necks

From the eminent white turtleneck in the fountain opening credits, to knit, cropped and coloured, Rachel sure knows how to style the cold-weather staple item.

The one with the... Plaid Pieces

Personally I wouldn't find myself wearing red plaid pants and in not many situations a plaid top, however these patterned mini skirts paired with socks or stockings is a look Rachel owns that is sultry without looking too school-girl like.

The one with the... Denim Waistcoats

The denim vest is a common outfit of Rachel's when waitressing at her Central Perk job, and with her parents high income it's no wonder she owns quite the variety of styles and shades.

The one with the... Slip Dress

Spaghetti strap slip dresses are another 90's reminiscent trend that have re-emerged this year, a look Rachel helped popularise and looked stunning in, even with underlays. However the episode, "The One With Rachel's New Dress" turns her lingerie gown into a fashion statement when interrupted by her boyfriends parents.

The one with the... Mini-Skirts and Knee-High Boots

Mini skirts paired with knee-high boots is a look outliving the Friends days to a modern personal favourite of mine. This sexy and sophisticated outfit was the very last fashion statement worn by Rachel in the final episode in 2004, shown far right.

The one with the... Mom Jeans

Mom jeans might just be my favourite 90's comeback, worn regularly by Rachel and her posy throughout Friends. I've snuck in a Monica outfit because I swear stores are selling same-same but different designs with slits as a fun detail.

The one with the... PJ's and Loungewear

Even Rachel's loungewear was on-trend, with never a dull fashion moment. She commonly wore oversized sweaters of popularity today, whilst still incorporating her love of plaid, as well as making mens shirts stylish.

The one with the... Denim Dungarees and White Sneakers

Overalls, dungarees, whatever you like to call them, only Rachel could make this once childhood staple a trend resurrected in modern fashion. She regularly pairs the pinafore look with white sneakers that give her the ultimate casual, street-style appeal.
